MET Parking Charge - out of bay

Hello, on Sunday (when the car park is free) I received a parking charge notice on my windscreen by MET Parking in the Brewery Shopping centre in Romford. The reason given was "out of bay".
Due to this being the weekend before Christmas, I was unable to find a parking space and so I parked in an area that was not a marked bay but could easily fit my car in without obstructing any other vehicles. There was nothing visible in the bay to suggest that I couldn't park there and I didn't give it a second thought.
I have read the newbie forum however I didn't know if the initial "one size fits all" template was still the best first response to use as they have already provided photographic evidence of my car being parked there and a sign of the terms and conditions.
Grateful for any help on what to do next!

Provided the car is not a hire, lease or company vehicle, follow the advice in NEWBIES FAQ Announcement, first post, for dealing with a windscreen ticket. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
