Smart Parking Fine - now with Debt Recovery- please help?

Can somebody help me please?
For note I am based in Scotland.
i received a fine request from Smart Parking - 27th Sept 2024,
I was parked in a multi storey and the machines were vandalised (no display working) but I still put money in.
i immediately appealed but I received no communication (luckily I took a photo of the appeal reference from the computer screen).
I then received a letter from debt recovery plus (based in Manchester).
asking to pay £170 fine!
i managed to get in touch with the debt recovery company and explained that I had put in an appeal and had no word from smart parking.
The debt company have asked that I pay £170 by 30th December or it goes to their legal team.
I haven’t mentioned still asked for proof - photographic evidence of date and time that the appeal response was sent to my email.
however I have now seen in forums that if you live in Scotland then we can ignore these?
can somebody advise please, as I don’t want to have a black mark against my name and to then have to go to court through this?
Thank you in advance
Linda

Ignore the powerless debt collectors, but do keep the paperwork

I have all the paperwork plus my appeal reference,
I emailed the Debt company to say that I was disputing this and still required proof that an appeal response was sent to me.
i have been worried over Christmas because of this, especially with having a mortgage etc.. I few of my friends said to ignore it but I was looking for all your advice, thank you0 -
Good, keep it that way, just ignore the debt collectors letters, nothing will happen2

You can completely stop worrying. Ignore them entirely - see the 4th post of the NEWBIES thread.l70rowe said:I have all the paperwork plus my appeal reference,

But the law is changing in a year so start reading private car park signs more diligently now. Search the forum for:
Scotland parking new law keeper 2025PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
