Confused whether side hustles count as cash

Hi, I’m retired and I have started to receive a monthly income from my DB pension this month.
To keep me busy, I have this year done some stewarding work at food festivals and got paid some money for it. It was like a zero hours contract, not a lot of money just around £400.
I was issued a payslip for the pay and no tax was deducted, so I my assumption is that HMRC knows about it as the employer also had my NI number and tax code on the payslip.
So my question is whether this income of £400 is counted as a side hustle or as taxable income (in addition to my new pension). If it’s a side hustle, how does it qualify for the £1,000 allowance? I’m confused about how this works, any advice appreciated.

Thanks good tip, I’ll check my online gateway account and see if they are there. Will they show up now or after this tax year? Just that I need to know to calculate how much I can draw down from my DC pension to use up any unused personal allowancemolerat said:Does your on line tax account how the employer ?0 -

Yes it did, but it’s the wrong tax code. I think they applied a default one 1257L my normal tax code includes the marriage allowanceHoenir said:

Thanks checked my account and the employer was there so it’s clearly included as earnings. It also allowed me to adjust the automated estimated income numbers to make sure tax code is correct 👍 the HMRC app has certainly come a long way since I last used it!molerat said:Does your on line tax account how the employer ?0
