Cooker hood question

Options
We've just moved house and this is the cooker hood in the kitchen.
I've never had one of these before so I'm not entirely sure how they work, but shouldn't it be venting somewhere???
The only thing at the top is the top of the cupboards. The hood sucks air when you switch it on but surely it has nowhere to go? 🤔🤨🫤

  • Some vent to the outside, others just suck the air through a filter. Looks like the latter.

As above. That one looks like it could do either - vent to the outside or recirculate. You should be able to find the installation instruction online that will explain all.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Really? So it's just catching the grease but the steam is still in the kitchen?

Yes, they’re often supplied so you can vent the steam if you prefer. We’ve retro-fitted a couple so that they vent outside and it makes a big difference.

Is there a boiler in that RH wall cupboard? Is that wall an external one? Could you try standing on a chair and looking at the tops of these cupboards - any flat ducting?

Looks like a flask on top of the cupboard to me!

Yes, cooker hoods generally have a flap in them to either vent externally, or internally via a carbon filter. The filter will remove grease and cooking smells, but won't remove steam etc.
Often it isn't practical to vent them externally, especially if they aren't close to an external wall.

no boiler, wall is internal. there's just a hole on top of the cupboard 😀
