Sound proofing for steel bath

My bathroom is down stairs and every time the washing machine is on I get a loud banging through my steel bath so I was thinking of trying sound deadening mat that's used on stainless steels sinks but I don't know where I can buy it from so can someone recommend a place to buy it or something similar.

Sounds like water hammer, best to sort that out rather than trying to hide the sound.

Or is it the thumping of the block in the washing machine? What is the positon of the bathroom to your washing machine? Are they on the same wall, how is the arrangemen? Is it kitchen and bathroom side by side, the wahing machine in the bathroom?Have you got wooden floors? Brick walls of plasterboard?Does the noise happen if the bath if full of water?I ask because those mats won't help much. It's knowing how the noise is travelling and working on that to stop or muffle it.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The bathroom is in the next room to the kitchen and the pipes are running from the kitchen through the brick wall in to the bathroom. The bath is on wooden blocks that are glued to a concrete floor, When the bath is full it does still make a noise but not as badtwopenny said:Or is it the thumping of the block in the washing machine? What is the positon of the bathroom to your washing machine? Does it bang while the washer switches the water off as it finishes filling with water for the wash/rinse? If so it's likely water hammer and the fitting a sioux chief mini arrester (£30) may be appropriate0

It does it when it's filling and then when it finished filling. Do you know where the sioux chief mini arrester should be fitted.Lorian said:Does it bang while the washer switches the water off as it finishes filling with water for the wash/rinse? You want the 3/4" BSPT version which is a simple DIY job. You detach the hose at the cold water supply, connect the hammer arrester to the water supply and reconnect the hose to the other end of the arrester.0
