2025 - A Debt a Month - A Year to Freedom

Hi everyone
I’ve been around these forums for a long time, but have been very sporadic for a while lately. The debt is still there and hasn’t been dealt with - but I honestly feel that 2025 is the year I get debt free. My OH and I have just finished paying a large loan that we’ve been paying for AGES. Before this we had no wiggle room to pay anything extra - from January, we will.
A little about me. I’m 43 and have Cystic Fibrosis. I’m currently on oxygen 24/7 and have been for over 6 years now. I’m on the watch and wait list for a lung transplant, but I’m not considering it at the moment as I’m still able to live my life quite fully - it just takes a lot of planning!!
My mum has also just been diagnosed with dementia, so that’s has taken up a lot of my time. She’s in her own flat at the moment in sheltered accommodation, but we will start to get her assessed for a care home as she’s not looking after herself properly and there’s only so much we can do.
I work part-time in retail and I also sell stuff on eBay. I would like to go full time with re-selling but we can’t afford to give up my retail wage yet, even though I only do 9 hours a week.
I’ve been with my OH for nearly 24 years and we live together. We’ve just had to move as our landlady of 11 years decided to sell up. We’re in a nice house now with a lovely landlady, but unfortunately our rent sky rocketed!!
Debt-wise, I’ve added all mine up and that’s what I’ll be documenting here. My OH has separate debts too, but I’m not certain of the amounts etc.
I’ve got just over £20k of debt. That’s spread over 11 debts - so my aim is clearing 1 per month over 2025. I think it’s doable. Some are smaller than others, so some months I will quickly pay off a smaller debt and then work on a bigger one for the remainder of the month.
So that’s me. Hello to everyone that remembers me and also to people that are reading about me for the first time.
I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. It’s going to be my aim to post every day to keep me going through the year. I’ll post more about my January target debt soon when I’ve worked out the order I’m paying them off in.
Emz xx

EveningLovely day with my sister, niece and nephew. Back home now which is also nice. Our new house is really starting to feel like home now.At work for 2 hours tomorrow evening and then I’m not back until a week today. OH gets paid a week tomorrow, and we don’t have much money right now, but have some bills coming out before then, so will have to get some eBay listing done quickly to get some cash coming in to get to payday. Will get some done tomorrow morning/afternoon.Emz xx3

EveningJust getting my evening meds and treatments done. Work was sooooo busy. January Sale is my least favourite time of year. Everything is so busy and messy. At least I’m not back in until Thursday next week. It’s been a good eBay day. Currently sitting on £96.57 which will hit our account tomorrow. We put our joint Christmas money in the bank which covered today’s direct debits. Also got us some petrol. Got quite a few payments due before payday though, so it’s going to be a tricky week.Emz xx3

Evening all
Hope Everyone has had a good day. Not so good on eBay today - £26.78 - but better than nothing. So my January debt is £1,200 that I borrowed from family to pay for a new oxygen concentrator for flights/holidays. I’ve already paid back £1,500 of it (cost just over £2,700), so would like to get the rest gone by the end of January. It’s basically £40 a day for 30 days. Easy peasy!! 😬🫣

Evening
Lovely day spent with family today and going to a friend’s for dinner tonight. Only £16.10 on eBay today.Going to sort my eBay store out tomorrow. Going through my listings, listing anything I’ve got that’s not listed, dropping prices and sorting out a charity bag for stuff that’s just not selling. I’m hoping that’ll create some sales and will get me ready for the new year. Need to get some more stock in and list more consistently as I’ve been very hit and miss lately for various reasons.Emz xx2
