New PC - It all starts with the Motherboard yes?

I did for a couple of decades but the last two machines I built (going back a while now) ran like the proverbial off a shovel for 4-6 months then did some driver updating and it all went pear shaped. Both times was unable to return the machines to their previous stable/fast selves and somewhat threw in the towel moving to laptops where self build is much rarer.PRAISETHESUN said:Personally I'd recommend building your own purely for the flexibility to customise your build to exactly what you want, but I agree that buying a pre-built system is simpler.2 -
Something else to watch out for is memory.Intel systems may or may not become unstable with 4 sticks of RAM, so make sure you have all the RAM you are likely to ever need in 2 sticks, so 2 48GB sticks if you want 96GB.(It may just be anecdotal problems on t'interweb that only affected a handful of people, but it doesn't hurt to avoid a possible problem.)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I would love to attempt to do that one day, maybe with a basic PC, not a gaming rig.
