Morning all from drizzling Mehefinland
All good intentions have gone out of the window as I had so much I wanted to do, but weather and cba'd ness hit hard.
However , my neighbour had to collect his GD from the Eastern side of Cardiff on Sunday and got logjammed in traffic along the main route from the West .A 40 minute journey took over 2 hours! and a lot of it was trying to pile into the out of town shops like Marks etc. I had intended going there myself as I fancied the chocolate log from the adverts ( just for something sweet in the house) but glad I didn't go in the end. Knowing my luck they would be sold out anyway ( sour grapes anyone?).
all the talk of pigs in blankets made me ponder on the collective for them! A quick goog% comes up with some interesting variants - I will leave you to research that yourselves. An 'oink' or 'squeal' doesn't cut it. Perhaps a 'sizzle'?
Thanks all for your kind words and virtual support through these past few hard months. It is appreciated by me, and all the others in similar situations.
Have a peaceful and happy Christmas. Hugs and spoons as always

@Taff. Tomorrow's song must be Christians Awake although its more like 'In the bleak midwinter' here14 -
Morning All
Busy day yesterday as it was DH birthday. We went out for lunch with my DD, and our friend. In the evening 3 friends came round for drinks and an evening chatting.
Today I need to finish wrapping and get DH to wrap my gifts.
Will prep tomorrow's veg this evening and get some washing done.
DP1 it was lovely to hear LO had such a lovely time, she and your DD really deserved it.
I will be thinking of everyone tomorrow and we can all have as lovely a day as possible, but especially those who may find it hard.
Take care all and hugs for all who want them

Just popping back to say I'm glad little 'un had a brilliant time DP1. A few birthdays today. 41 years ago I was bringing my firstborn home from hospital, he was born on 17th. Memories <<sniff>>Gammon smelling nice from the slow cooker. Chipolatas defrosting before assembling. Made Rudolph cupcakes. Made buttercream and added chocolate which made it a bit hard to deal with after it sat for a while but I'm sure the taste will be OK even if the reindeers look a bit wonky!Hope everyones prep goes well x10

Morning all, I had an awful night sleeping or lack of it, so I'm a bit of a wet rag today, maybe I can get a nanna nap this afternoon.
The gammon is in the slow cooker, the pork is in the oven so only some pigs in blankets to do today. I too have a DGS who would eat a plateful so I've already got a doz ready in the freezer for Boxing day. The turkey will be cooked later and I'll hoover around the downstairs last thing, then some xmas films will be watched.
I watched the Lee Mack and Chris Macausland jape last night and had a really good laugh out loud, more of that please because there's enough doom and gloom in the world as it is. Here endeth my Christmas message 🤣
Scarlet hope you can both enjoy the festivities. I'm sure it will be a difficult time with things at the back of your mind so here's a big cwtch from me to you both 🧡
taff thank you once again for all the xmas songs and carols, you're a star 🌟
I shall be thinking of those who will spending Xmas day alone and I'll raise a glass to everyone tomorrow.
Have a good xmas break everyone, thank you for being so supportive.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14 -
Morning all
Its very foggy and damp here not a nice day at all I would rather it was freezing cold 🥶
I feel better today yesterday in Tesco was a nightmare 😩 so busy but to be fair most people were in good spirits with just a few grumpy ones for good measure! I was so glad to get out of there and get home. My mum had a £200 gift voucher (given to the elderly of the village by a church charity) and our shopping came to £204.74 😬 so we walked out of there with a very full trolley for £4.74, I did offer to give her £100 back but she insisted which was very nice.
Today we need to prep the sprouts, carrots, parsnips and potatoes, prep the veggie stuffing make a lemon posset with preserved lemons which I bought from our beloved Greek island and make some pin wheels which dd will do she has made these since being a child so it’s sort of a tradition now, then have a quick clean through and be sat on the sofa with a Christmas film and a drink by mid afternoon, almost forgot OH will collect some holly and Ivy for the table when he takes the dogs out. My sister is bringing a cauli cheese and another pudding and mum is doing the meat stuffing.
All this Christmas prep bought to mind my dear Nels she loved Christmas and all the food I will think of her often over the Christmas period.
Taff thank you for the carols xxx
Thinking of those who are missing someone special which is extra hard at this time of year xx
Scarlett I hope you and your DH can relax a bit and enjoy the festivities xxx
Have good days all and take care xx

Morning all. Weather today is grey sky with a light wind, feeling milder but at least dry.
So glad to hear LO enjoyed yesterday @dp1, if anyone deserved it, she did.
I survived the SM yesterday and got everything that was on the list except for one thing that can wait. Yes, it was busy but not as bad as I'd feared it might be. The staff were working their little socks off replenishing the shelves and customers were, in general, patient. The car park was rammed of course, with a member of staff directing the traffic flow - not an easy task! One or two extras may have fallen into the trolley, including a little pot of hyacinths for the kitchen window sill.
Today's tasks are (in order): cook the beef, portion/freeze stuff for the freezer (a bit of freezer tetris may will be required), wash my hair and prep veg for tomorrow. After that, it's feet up and chill time.
I mentioned before DS has been discharged by the cardio and nephrology clinics; now he's received yet another appointment, this time for a liver scan. What next? At least it's for in the New Year at a clinic just 5 minutes away and convenient time-wise. He'll be here over Xmas so I'll not be on my own; I know others won't be as fortunate so I'm sending them extra hugs.
Everyone sounds busy with prepping and I'd better get on with it too. In case I don't manage to get on tomorrow I'll wish everyone happiness and peace. Take care. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.14 -
Happy Christmas Eve to all
Thank you for the carols Taff
Hope those struggling over Christmas cope with this difficult time of year, my thoughts are with you xxCarolbee13 -
What a lot of cooking is going on! And all lovely stuff too - pigs in blankets, beef, pork, turkey, lots of veggies and some puddings, all very industrious. I'm being very lazy in comparison
cauliflower cheese and potatoes dauphinoise from M&S, venison to cook tomorrow, sprouts, cauli and carrots prepped. I don't enjoy traditional Christmas pudding so have a panettonne, a wee stollen, ice cream and a bottle of Bailey's if I fancy something sweet.
Yes, I'll be on my own with my memories but will be content to rummage amongst them. Large numbers are not for me so I have turned down invitations.@DP1 - thanks so much for the update about little one, lovely to hear that she had a great time. @TA - fingers crossed that you will soon start to feel the benefit of those ABs and you can enjoy your Christmas. Thanks for the rocking Christmas tunes @Taff, a new kitchen in time for all that cooking is perfect. Happy Birthday to @Camelot's son, a meal out sounds good. @ Remmie - what a fabulous memory about your brother! You sound so organised @Ruby - well done. So do you @WL, enjoy your dancing. @Izzy - another one organised well, have a lovely time. @Mehefin , @SO, @Yorks and all those who had the loss of a loved one this year, I hope that you can wrap yourselves in the happy memorises of Christmas's past. Missing someone is difficult especially when the loss is new. Much love to you all.Another Christmas birthday @NRA - I'm glad that you and your OH had a lovely time yesterday. @Chrisca - I'm sure that no-one will care about wonky reindeers, they will care about you. @Nan - I hope that you can catch up with your missed sleep in time for the jollies tomorrow. @Ruby - what a kind Mum you have, and yes, thoughts of Nels and Dumpling do wander through my mind too. @Yorks - it's a never ending carousel of NHS appointments, at least your son is being looked after. Thanks to all who post here, either regularly or only sometimes. Reading about others day to day life is such good company.13 -
Hi all
I was in and out of two supermarkets before 8am, roads and shops were really quiet. I had only 6-7 things on the list but still managed to forget one of them - only tomatoes and we’ll do without!Just a bathroom to clean and a bed to change and I’m not doing any more! Really tired and feel a bit flat - I enjoy the run up to Christmas more than the day itself tbh. Might have a nap later!Best wishes to you all
