Life Insurance whilst in prison

My brother in law is currently on prison on remand (charged with drug and financial offences if that makes any different to the question at hand). It is expected that he will be convicted and remain in prison. He would like to get life insurance in case anything was to happen whilst he is away. My main concern is whether he would be even be able to get a Policy if you are currently imprisoned. Only advice I can see online is about if you have been released but still have spent convictions. I don't know if anyone has any experience/advice and would be able to advise next steps?

In principle there is nothing to stop him from buying insurance however its unlikely his convictions are spent if he is currently at his majesties pleasure and so will need to be declared and if anyone would be willing to take on someone with such a record is another matter.

Currently merely on remand though, not convicted. Let's assume he doesn't have an existing criminal record given the OP doesn't mention one.
