My British Gas app hasn't been updating since 18.12.24

Hi all.

I normally get a reading for both gas and electric after 48hrs (which is a pain).

Since the 18th of December, I've had no updates, either from the browser log in or the app itself.

Does that mean no information has been sent to the smart meter? If so, have I had free energy since that time?

Thanks.

Sent by the smart meter to the DCC and then onward to BG? Yes, it's quite possible.

    No.
It's likely that your smart meter is happily recording how much energy you're using, and totting it all up. When the BG and the DCC manage to re-establish connection, all the data will be sent through.
If you don't see anything by the date you'd expect your next bill, or after a month, you might want to contact British Gas and let them know so they can try to sort it out.

Smart meters have to store at least 12 months of data, so eventually it will get through.

Have BG finished migrating people to the new billing system? That often doesn't go well.
  • I only joined BG in mid October of this year. I wasn't even aware of their migration process to the new system.

The app was asking for my card payment details for verification. Even though it said no payment will be taken, I didn't really want to proceed any further.

And it seems the BG app has updated but only for electric again. Gas is still at £0.00.

I'm just going to leave it until I get the next bill. Any issues, then I'll get in touch with them.
