I have to say that I have not heard of that exemption before - but as we say different councils can have different rules about such things.

It might help us look things up if we knew which council was involved here?

I did speak to someone in the council tax team and after speaking to their manager I was told to could apply and a link sent to claim it. But that was following a telephone conversation and I don’t want to get 12 months down the line and be told I wasn’t entitled it and they want it all back. I think I will follow up my application with an email just to set everything out.
As I am not trying to get something I’m not entitled to!

Which Council is your local authority?
Unlike many items where the rules are set by national Government and implemented by Local Authorities, the Council Tax exemptions are rules set by each LA and can vary.  

FWIW, for my LA, the requirement is that the property is unoccupied and you would have to be living elsewhere.  I have paraphrased the rules.  Under those rules, you would appear not to qualify for the exemption.  Discussing that is rather moot as the rules where your property is may be different.

Hi quick update, always worth checking it out as I did qualify and I got the last years council tax refunded and I’m not paying this year!
