What are my chances of making this?

Options
Nothing outstanding - I want an L shaped corner desk and have been looking for ages. They seem to have the short side on the wrong side or be beautiful and wildly expensive.
I saw this, perfect. But it's from Hong Kong so the returns would be horrendous ;)

Do you think it would be stable enough?
What timber to use?

I was going to get some paper to make a pattern. I have a Walnut pedestal table no one wants so may be able to use the boards but the support evaded me.
Can't do the drawers but should be able to get some.

It's for the tiny room so would look more spacious with the open base.
It's for laptop/paperwork and art work mainly where you need to spread a bit from your sitting position.

If it's feesible then I'm going to see if I can go to The Mens Shed and if they have space and tools to do the job. They said they'd take females - especially ones that can draw/design and I can  :)

Base looks like it may be made from steel box section - Not too difficult to fabricate if you have access to a mig welder.
The drawers appear to be a stand alone unit - Visit a couple of office supply outfits, and they might even have a second hand unit going cheap.

Ahh - could I make the base from wood?
I couldn't work out how to support the front corner but it looks like 2 straight pieces that go from side to middle.

If I was to buy one it wouldn't be from there. Proper office suppliers aren't much dearer for something more substantial.

It has 5 legs, you cannot see the 5th under the corner but you can see the stretcher going to it, it'll be perfectly stable.

Which timber, depends on what look you want, what your budget is etc. I made a similar table for wedging clay (so big/strong/heavy), as the worktop was going to be something relatively light and non-stick plus I happened to have some spare spruce joists so used them to add weight but many woods would be suitable.

    Maybe this will help -
Also worth having a look on ebay to see what is available.

All you want (I think) is an ordinary straight desk but a pedestal at the left side.  You could check a second hand office equipment shop or simply go to ikea to get the bits that make this up.

You Tube has lots of videos showing how to make DIY corner desks from IKEA units.

Local Fb Marketplace shows no fewer than 8 corner desks within 30 miles, 2 immediately local to me.
Very different styles and sizes, and none more than £30.
Could you build this? Of course. Is it worth doing? Only if you actually want the project/experience/challenge, or have a very specific size or requirement - ie it needs to be bespoke.

Thank you for all the ideas.
It needs to be no more than 3ft on the short left side.
That desk would arrive in the middle of my tiny room and swamp the radiator FreeBear.
It needs to be one flat piece for the art work
It can be painted. Finish isn't the problem.
Yes I've been haunting the charity shops with no sucess. I've been on line loads and this is the first I've seen
Ikea is a 120mile round trip and I wouldn't drive in that city. I live in beauty but that means it's not convenient ;)

I enjoy making things and very satisfying to arrive with exactly what you need but so much to do and I'd rather have it right here and now :)
I'm going to get a large sheet of paper and get going. It was the supports that had me foxed till I saw this and thanks for the confirmation DullGreyGuy
