Looking for something small and light - and as cheap as possible
to carry to the libray to work on.
Would like to work on a word doc, browse forums, listen to podcasts and watch main chanel streaming services when I'm stuck in bed with a recurring injury.
Also need to save word docs (usb) to convert to Word at some point.
Wanting to buy local so easy to return if necessary and living in the back woods we still have an Argos.
Would be really grateful for your help.
Was waiting for the sales but saw this offer.

It would be okay for office documents and browsing forums, but might struggle when downloading and watching video from the internet.
A 2ghz processor and 8gb RAM would be a better minimum spec if you plan to use it for this purpose often.
Don't forget once you've opened and used the laptop, Argos won't take it back unless faulty, not just because you're not happy with it.

Thanks Pennyfarthing, I wouldn't be downloading but streaming I think. Bit clueless about the terms.I just watch iplayer and a couple of channels online.I rarely take things back because I change my mind. I take so long making up my mind that it's usually the right thing then I use it till it falls apart. Very MSE

I personally wouldn't touch Celeron and the N4020 it uses is over 5 years old having been released in 2019. Similarly having 4gb of ram... 8gb is the minimum and these days it's really 16gb+.
I made the mistake of buying a small and light machine (wasnt as cheap as possible). It was acceptable at the time but very quickly became unusable. Many state the N4020 won't even play Youtube well enough let alone a modern streaming service.
If you want as cheap as possible then give up on the light and buy something plastic that will be heavier but not something you want to throw out the window each time you go to use it.2 -
As above by DullGreyGuy.And I would add that Windows updates require quite a bit of disk space so that is really too limiting as we as the other downsides.1

Do you need a physical keyboard? If not there are plenty of good Android tablets at that price that'll be much more pleasant to use.
Though they might not support USB sticks.1 -
I had looked at tablets Outatune. But I touch type and the work I'm doing would take forever if I had to poke at every word.I wasn't thinking of windows, that's why I was looking at cloudbooks and Chrome. And light it must be because I'm old and injured so carrying is why.A well, back to the drawing board.I have a second hand Kindle Fire 7 bought for £25 for podcasts and playing with, it will do everything except get MSE forums!

Ipad with a detachable keyboard/case? Certified refurbed iPad from Apple Store can be good value.2 -

- Pentium N4200 1.1 GHz 4-core processor (which may be slightly better than the Celeron in the linked device)
- 4GB RAM
- 125 GB hard drive
It functions acceptably for "work" applications, so long as only one application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) in use at a time. Trips sometimes if a large Word document with pictures / photos in.
It serves adequately as an internet browser, but sometimes struggles in a Teams meeting and excessive lag / drop out. Try not to have too many browsing windows open at one time. I occasionally watch YouTube and it is generally OK.
The storage is sufficient but not generous.
The laptop sometimes freezes and have to reboot if downloading photos from the phone and / or viewing photos.
The main thing to remember with these types of devices is that they are what they are - everything is soldered to the motherboard and upgrades tend not to be possible. If, like me, you find the device gets "jumpy" and "sluggish" and then you realise that the RAM is at >80% in use just by booting up but not really actually doing anything, you can't change your mind and add another stick of RAM to make it better.
Hope that helps.
Edit to add - I previously had a HP stream 11" netbook which had also worked fine until one day it just bricked and would no longer boot up. It had originally cost £99 at Tesco and I'd had it three years so simply considered it as disposable and reached the end of life.

No. Cloudbook crap is for people that are more online than offline.
Buy a second hand i5 or Ryzen 5 laptop from CEX instead -better performance and price. Else you can just get a second hand Microsoft Surface, if you want something light as a tablet, but usable like a laptop1 -
I happened to be browsing the internet and stumbled across these two listings on Amazon which might be better value than the cloudbook device the OP linked to. Not quite as portable but more functional:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T450-Bluetooth-Professional/dp/B082P8NJTX
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Latitude-Business-i5-8365U-Windows/dp/B0CQ8WRZVS
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T480-Windows-Ultrabook/dp/B0BY937M5D?th=1
These are more "business" machines so might be just "tougher" and more durable than the cloudbook-type devices which tend to be very budget-orientated.
I am not quite sure what the "Amazon Renewed" status classifications "Refurbished - Excellent" and "Refurbished - Good" mean. Perhaps someone else will be able to advise.1
