Annual travel insurance expires during return flight.

Hi , me and my partner have a tesco annual insurance policy that expires on the 13th of January 2025 but our flight doesn't land back in the UK till the morning of the 14th , we will be 3 hours into the return flight at midnight on the 13th when it expires . 
 1.Would the policy cover everything on the holiday up until the expiry time?
  2 .could there be problems with the trip not being completely covered?
As we are just sitting on the plane for the last few hours we didn't there is much of a risk not having insurance for this small part of the holiday. 
Hope someone can give us some advice.

  • On many policies you are only covered for a holiday if the policy is in force for the entire trip, so you need to read the terms of the policy.

    Will be a bigger risk if the flight is delayed or cancelled and you're still abroad when the policy ends...

    Is it possible to arrange new cover from 13th on the same policy to maintain continuity of cover?

    Will you be renewing with them? Most insurers consider it continuous cover if you do

    Have you read the terms of your insurance? For instance I think they would usually extend your cover if say your return flight was cancelled and you had to come back a week later eg because an Icelandic volcano misbehaved, but this may be conditional on the insurance being valid until the original planned return date. 
  • Hi.  Thank you for all your replies. I couldn't seem to see a answer in the T and C , may have missed it .I contacted them a few days ago and spoke to someone who only gave quotes for the policies and didn't know much else. I will contact them on Mon/ Tue and try to speak to different department about my options . Don't know if auto renewal is on or off , had no email yet. Thanks again for your help . Will reply with my findings. 
  • Spoke to the Tesco claims team and with the annual policy we covered up till the policy ends even if we do return the date after.  We are going to take the small risk of not being insured for the last few hours of our return flight. Thank you all for your help
