Broken laptop returned from Currys still broken, now out of warranty

My stepson bought a laptop from Currys for £470. It started crashing and blue screening and showing the screen from the picture below. We took it into Currys with a week still left on the warranty. They gave it back to him two weeks later.
There was a lot of bloatware on the machine and it was still crashing and showing the weird screen effect. I suspect all they did was reinstall windows and call it a day, when it is quite clearly a hardware fault.
We took it back today and explained that the original fault was still present from the previous "repair". Currys just said that as it was out of warranty now their system would only allow a paid for repair; costing £75 + any parts and labour charges. They said it didn't matter that it was a fault that should have been fixed with the first repair and there was nothing further that they could offer, so we took the laptop away with us.
What are his options for dealing with this now?
Thanks for any advice
