Mystery debt from O2 has just killed my credit score on Experian

This is my first post here, because I am mystified by something. A couple of months ago a missed payment for £8 appeared against O2 on my Experian. I thought I knew what it was but didn't do anything about it. Then I checked my statement and a £7 dd was going out to them safely every month, so I rang them last week to say "???". I cancelled the account related to the £7 but they say they do not know what the £8 is about and they have no more accounts in my name and don't think I owe them any money at all.
Today I check Experian and there's a 4th missed payment and my credit score has plummetted as a result, having been close to perfect a few days ago.
I have raised a query with Experian explaining, but has this happened to anybody else? Is there any magic phrase I need to use with O2 to fix this?
Huge thanks in advance for any advice.
