Not notified of foxed term ending

Hi, was on an EV tarriff with British gas which I believe ended as have been kicked onto standard variable since 01/12/24. Not an issue as i understand this is process however should i have been notified that my fixed term was coming to an end so i could sort?
Half way through Dec and probably spent £140 more than i would have switching onto their new fixed term EV tarriff so i feel a bit hard done by that they didn’t remind me that my tarriff was coming to an end.
Worth complaining to them or not?

most bills have the tariff and term written on them somewhere, so you should have been aware if you'd been checking them regularly.

There does seem to be an expectation nowadays that if someone can't be bothered to keep an eye on their bills or other obligations that its someone else's fault and that they should be able to whinge and get compensation if they don't get a reminder.

Every bill I receive has the tariff end date on it and my online account has the information available too.

I think you are clutching at straws if you think you will get any redress for missing the date.

Regardless of it being on the bill, the supplier is required to send a notification between 42 and 49 days before the end date. If they didn't do this then it's worth a complaint.

Possibly they did if it was on the bill or even ended up in the spam folder - Does the notification have to be sent as a separate e-mail, letter or someone actually knocking on the door. My bills usually warn me when the fix or tariff is due to expire and offer me the opportunity to move to another tariff or deal. In fact its stated on every bill every month.

It could have been sent but missed or ignored. We really don't know the whole story or how diligent they were in checking e-mails spam or bills except that the OP feels aggrieved that he's missed out

People do have a responsibility to be aware just in case a letter or e-mail goes astray and not to blame others.
