Washing machine being replaced under warranty

Our washing machine is being replaced under warranty by the manufacturer after a second repair was deemed too costly. This was determined almost a month a go after a visit from a service engineer who told us not to use the machine as the drum was misshapen and could cause serious damage if the front was to fall off.

An offer was made for a replacement by the manufacturer which we accepted at the end of November and we awaited further details for delivery (up to a maximum of 28 days to sign off and deliver). We have now been told 3 weeks later that this replacement is no longer in stock. Another unit has been offered but this is taller than the existing unit so we have declined and they are looking for something else. We are told that the 28 day process will start again once we accept a replacement.

We have an 8 month old baby and we are stuck without a washing machine which we ordinarily use on a daily basis. Are there any consumer rights here in terms of replacing in a timely manner? This is such a huge inconvenience.

Comments

  • Not with the manufacturer.
  • Your rights are those in the warranty terms.   You'd perhaps have been better off going down the consumer rights route.  How long ago did you buy it and where from?

If you can afford it, I'd buy a cheap or second hand machine to tide you over.  You could always sell it on when a new replacement does arrive, and it'll be cheaper than another month of launderette costs, or less hassle than handwashing or using someone else's machine.

When we had issues with our Bosch tumble dryer, they wanted to replace it but didnt have any instock. So they gave us the option of going back to the retailer and them getting a claim code from Bosch. With that, we could choose a replacement, another item or a refund.

Can the manufacturer of your appliance do the same?
