New Day applying default even though agreed payments have been made.

Hello

I had an Amazon credit card with New Day and they apparently stopped providing credit cards but I have been making regular agreed repayments. I recently went on to my credit file and noticed New Day have sold my debt to Lantern and my last payment taken by them was 5th September 2024 and they defaulted me on 16th September 2024. I stupidly wasn't checking that DD payments were still going out but they defaulted my account whilst I was making regular monthly payments. This is now affecting my credit rating - is there a way I can get this default removed? Advice please.

Has New Day sold the debt or have they simply passed it to Lantern to handle it on their behalf?  Has any post/email/text been received about this?

For it to have defaulted I think you need to have been in arrears at the very least.  Were you?  If you weren't then you would have a case to get your credit history corrected.

Don't worry about your credit rating - the banks don't look at it, they look at what's actually in your credit record.  If you are in arrears and not making payments (for whatever reason) that's what will affect you negatively.

You say you were making "regular payments" but were you making regular "contractual payments" or just a random agreed amount?

Because anything less than the contractual repayment is in breach of your agreement, and no matter what terms you agree with them going forwards, that will lead to an eventual default being registered, and, as in your case, sale of the debt.
