Faulty washing machine after 30 days

Hi, we bought a Samsung washing machine back on July from Argos. From.day one my wife complained that it made a noise when it was speeding up to spin. Unfortunately,  due to my work shifts, I didn't take a.proper look at it until after 30 days. I discovered that when it started to speed up for the spin cycle, the drum moved excessively backwards and forwards and it made a banging noise. Once up to full spin speed, the noise stopped.
I contacted Argos through their FB messenger service, which is an AI chatbot. It told me to speak to the manufacturer to arrange an engineer to come out.
My initial contact with Samsung was frustrating - sent them several videos.of the issue, but they wouldn't send out an engineer.
So I spoke to Argos and said I wanted to return it for a refund, but they said they couldn't authorise that until either Samsung had confirmed the machine was faulty or an independent repair company did.
Eventually managed to get an engineer from Samsung, who replaced the drum and basket, but the problem still persisted. Got a second engineer to come out, and he tried to claim the problem was caused because the adjusting feet weren't locked in place, which he did. The problem still persists and in fact the noise is getting worse.
We really just want to hand it back and get our money back, but where do we go from here?

  • I had this exact same symptom with our new Bosch machine. Turns out that after removing the transit bolts I should have also removed the plastic plugs the bolts go through and the drum was hitting them on the spin start up.

I was somewhat embarrassed when the man from Bosch turned up to fix it and immediately diagnosed the problem.

You should put the plastic caps in the holes left from the bolts too, most if not all come with them in the bag with the spanner.

Are you saying put the plastic caps in where as the previous poster says remove them or are you both talking about different things

i have a noisy Bosch washer, can’t remember wether I took any plastic out when I removed the bolts

I think they're saying put the plastic covers over the holes where the plastic plugs and bolts were.

Yes they are different things, the bits that need to come out look like this, once removed the holes can be covered with the caps.

I would read up on your rights and follow the detailed advice on MSE. But basically you are past the 30 days to simply reject it but there has been a failed repair so you can demand that again. Advise Argos that you are enforcing your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Don't let them fob you off with going back to Samsung as your CRA rights are always with the buinsess where you purchased it. Any warranty or guarantee with a manufacturer are separate and in addition to those CRA rights not instead of. Note the often stated "this does not affect your statutory rights" - this is a legal term referring to the CRA and other laws and making it clear that those are overriding legal rights that they cannot take away.

You are spot-on about the OP's statutory rights. However those rights don't extend to making Argos repair the machine with their own fair hands.
Argos have deals with manufacturers and it's quite common, and reasonable, for them to direct customers to go to the manufacturer for repair. Just make it clear to Argos that you know who your rights are with.
