in IVA & DRO
Hi I am in a messy dispute with HMRC, I have had a bill from HMRC for tax they say I owe from 2001. They said it’s been linked to an IVA which I had from 2005-2010 so they’re assuming I didn’t complete my Iva. This is incorrect as my IVA was completed and in fact I had a mortgage in Sept 2011. I cannot get a copy of my Iva because it’s so long ago. I have complained twice to HMRC to no avail. What can I do!!??
I have contacted Grant Thornton who I had the IVA with but they sold their business to ‘Debt Management’
i contacted them but as it was so long ago they do not have a copy.
i know HMRC are incorrect re the completion but they’re presuming I’m guilty (not completed IVA) when they have no proof of this other than their error.
please please help!!!

Not much you can do from that long ago, as there will be no records still existing.
You say you complained twice to no avail, what exactly does that mean??
They didn`t respond or they denied your complaint?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thanks is this allowed?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing I really wish I’d kept a copy and I’m sure I will have but I just can’t find it. I’ll be searching my parents laptops the weekend0 -

My completion certificate was an A4 piece of paper with the IP`s name and signature on it, saying that my arrangement had completed successfully, with the date printed on it.
To be fair it looked like a 6 year old had done it, so its your choice really, do that or pay the tax again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I think it is a very bad idea to forge an IP's signature on a fake completion certificate to send to HMRC.
I am sure that if an IVA fails, creditors are sent a letter of termination saying that. I suggest asking HMRC to produce that letter, then if they say they no longer have it as it was so long ago, you say you no longer have the completion certificate for the same reason. If they carry on asking you to pay, put in a formal complaint and also contact your MP.0 -

Great thanks for this Manyways!0 -
@ManyWays you my friend are a genius! I did as you suggested asking for proof I didn’t complete my Iva from creditors and received an apology for their error and a credit of £50 for all the stress it’s caused me. Thank you2
