I signed up to Skype subscription.  Really need to make international calls.  Can I block it with bank if can't do it manually?
Have you compared the pricing with other VOIP providers? We use a VOIP provider and whilst we pay a subscription for a couple of extra features it's a basic PAYG if you want it to be.

If you can block it with the bank depends on how you are paying it... I'd guess its a CPA on a card in which case the answer is technically yes however non-payment is not the same as cancelling a service and many have had debt collectors or even CCJs for mistakingly thinking the two are the same.
It's debit card long number so I guess I can block it.  Just don't know where you can cancel in Google play.  They say cancel in there but can't find it.  Think they make it deliberately difficult.

Maybe try looking in https://myaccount.google.com/subscriptions or https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions (assuming you are logged in to your google account in your browser)

It seems that Rebtel is only available for mobiles.   Is there a version suitable for a laptop?

Over the years I've found Skype to be ideal for occasional use to call just about anywhere from anywhere and have about £4 credit left, which will do me for a while.
    What kind of laptop?
Alexa, from an enabled laptop or any standalone device such as Alexa dot, can call any phone in UK and USA, and some other countries as well, for free.

I just shout 'Alexa! call (number)'

I think it's app only. Why would you want to use a laptop anyway? With an app you make the calls using a phone - a device designed to make calls.

    It's Dell Latitude.

I'll look at the Alexa info.  Is it the case that I would be able to bluetooth either a laptop or phone to the Alexa device, which could then phone landlines and mobiles using, for example, a hotel wi-fi connection?

Shame it doesn't list Australia and NZ amongst the available countries.

I'd tend to use a laptop because at home there is no mobile reception so I haven't been lured fully into the mobile age yet. The laptop travels with me and also can be used to dial, speak and listen just like a phone. :)

If I download the Rebtel app to my mobile can I then use it as a pay-as-you-go device, loading some money on to the Rebtel account and then use the phone to make international calls, and does it operate through a local mobile network or via hotel wi-fi?

Rebtel can use either WiFi, 4G/5G, or use a regular phone line. When it makes a call, it checks your signal strength and automatically chooses the best option. If you're abroad, you can connect to hotel WiFi and make a call.

Also, signal strength isn't that important when you're at home if you have WiFi calling enabled on your phone.

And yes, there is a PAYG option. I use PAYG as I don't regularly make international calls.

    Thanks jbrassy.
That looks to be very suitable.
I'll investigate further and try it out.
