These are also used on commercial washers, I struggled for years with everything from water pump pliers to mole grips, then our boss gave us the proper things which I had for years, then I lost them, they’re probably still in the back of some washer somewhere, I just used jubilee clips, replacing the wire clips when required..

How many of these do you need to do, Shiraz? If an ongoing project, then absolutely buy the right tool. But if it's a one-of, usually no need.
