Eon welcome pack out of the blue
Hello
Yesterday I received a welcome pack in the post from Eon - this rang alarm bells as I am with Octopus and definitely haven't switched.
I called them and gave them my details to be told 'oh yes, there's a balance of £16 odd pence on the account from January this year'. I explained I signed the tenancy in February this year so the balance is nothing to do with me and ask they contact my social housing landlord.
When I moved in the supplier was Ovo so I sorted out switching from them to Octopus and paid the final balance with them.
I've ended up emailing my tenancy agreement to Eon (after my landlord wasn't much help and refused to get involved) and had an email back from Eon asking if I know who the previous tenant was or can I give them the landlord's details when it's on the TA I sent them!
When I asked Eon how they got my name they said it was Equifax that searched and provided it to them.
A couple of questions please:
Are Eon any good at sorting this type of thing out quickly and painlessly? I don't have much confidence given that I got a welcome pack and then asked again for landlord details I had just provided.
How much info would Equifax have access to regarding when I became responsible for my current address? I'm a little astounded Eon can just put my name on their account 10 months after I moved in when the supplier for the address at the time wasn't even them.
I called Octopus just to double check no switch is taking place and they've confirmed nothing has changed on their end.
Thanks for any responses.

No they are rubbish they sent me a bill for the previous 12 months the house had been empty and kept sending it. I gave then the previous owners address twice then just threw the letters from Eon away. Eventually they stopped coming.
Don't worry - even if they threaten to take you to court you have clear proof that this isn't your bill0 -
That must have been so annoying.
Eon have emailed me to confirm they've changed the name and details on the account so hopefully that's an end to it for me.0
