I prefer wooden ones but my question is if I went with UPVC do they yellow? I often put pictures and vases up so would they leave a mark? What do new builds usually go with these days?

No, they shouldn't yellow - just like PVC windows themselves don't.They are the most practical, being fully waterproof and easy to clean, but I agree - timber looks better.0

I had no idea uPVC window sills were a thing. As above, they shouldn't yellow. Marking is normally down to finish; although I tend to use water-based paint, I would consider oil for a windowsill that has things moved around on its surface. Yellowing of oil based paint is less of an issue on a windowsill.0

We chose to have black pvc window sills. They still look good 15 years later.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When you come to order one, in the trade a window sill is external and a window board is the internal one.4

The latter is cheaper and lighter. Ot alternatively you get a thicker product for the same price. It is fine for applications where there is not a lot of physical stress, like window boards, and probably OK for most window sill applications.
Neither should be affected by weather/sunlight and normally will have a guarantee along those lines.0 -
I moved into a house which had UPVC windows already fitted - the windowsills were the PVC ones and they were scratched and marked - no matter what I did I couldn't get them to look nice. I had a load of work done and my joiner replaced all of the windowsills with wooden ones and they look great. Love them.0

I've got wooden ones and I use white waterbased paint. Not had a problem and the bathroom has shells and coral on it without damage despite the blinds catching in the coral on a regular basis
.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

So I’ve been quoted same price for wooden sills and UPVC ones0

I guess, if you want fit-and-forget, nothing more required than a wipe-down with a damp cloth, then PVC. If you are also happy with how they look, then jobbie-jobbed, and no need to look further.
Folk only go for wooden 'boards because they prefer their appearance - that's pretty much it.0
