When I got my blink pone wiht the sync module I also got a 'mini camera' as I was told that acts as the chime (it has a loud speaker on it). I think, without the mini camera(s) you are relying on the loudness of the chime on the outside doorbell itself or an alexa/blink app
I have changed the battery a couple of times on the doorbell in the 2 years I have had it.
The mini cameras are pretty cheap, especially in amazon sales so you could have several around the house - which you could use to keep you eye on your mum/visitors or turn them round to face the wall1
