Last night, I tried to set up a prime account on Amazon. I was informed, I had to set up with Google play. I kept going round in circles trying to get into my Google account, even setting up new passwords. Because I use sky mail with Amazon, every time I get new mail in TypeApp for my Sky account I have verify my Google account. How can I stop this? I have a separate Gmail with the Google account.

what device were you using?
If you have a laptop you can just use a browser - but if it's a android it might be different.0 -
if you set it up by logging on on the desktop you avoid the google pay trap.0

I was Android. No payment was made. I couldn't get in to Google.0

If you do it a browser on your phone you don't need to use Google pay0
