Car insurance - told repaired but discovered it's a Cat B after a check

Hi all,
I'm writing for a friend who is just going through it all at the moment, so said I would ask for some advice here.
Keeping it brief as I can, She was driving on the motorway and was rear ended by a young driver on their phone. Her car (Peugeot 208 -2016) was later repaired under the young drivers insurance and all seemed to be ok. A week later her exhaust fell off, (might be unrelated) and also needed some new tyres, when the tyres were replaced they said everything was completely out of alignment so they adjusted it for her. Another week later (which was yesterday) her engine died on the motorway, and the recovery guy said her engine is pretty much done.
She has this morning done an HPI check as she wants to go through the process of selling whats left of the car and it's saying the car is now a CAT B? She was not told this and has since had these further works done (Exhaust + tyres) on i'm guessing an uninsurable car? She's spoken to her insurance and they don't want to know as they say the claim was settled and repair was made.
She is currently trying to get in contact with Citizens Advice but I don't really know what to advise her.
Any opinions on whether she or her insurance is responsible for costs would be greatly received.
Thanks!

DVLA will never issue a new V5C for a CatB car, so if it really is CatB, it's effectively scrap.
CatB means that the bodyshell must be destroyed, but parts can be stripped off and sold.
It would require VERY substantial damage, and it'd be unlikely that anybody would bother repairing something like an 8yo 208 that was that wrecked. So there's clearly an error gone on here. It's not for her insurance, if she claimed off the other driver.
How bad was the damage? Just rear-end? It's entirely feasible that the exhaust was damaged, and that should have been part of the insurance repair.
But the tyres and tracking (rear suspension isn't adjustable)? No, I find that difficult to see, unless she was pushed into a kerb or similar.
Likewise engine, unless the damage starved it of oil. What's "pretty much done" about it?
Does the HPI report say when it was written off as CatB? Was it HPI themselves that did the report?1 -

What would her insurance be liable for? They weren't involved in the accident as you say she claimed off the other driver's insurance and your saying the cars died of a mechanical problem which isn't an insured event.
Does she have any correspondence in relation to the claim off the other party's insurance?1 -
Sorry I don't want to go off topic but are you sure the car is its true identity? i.e its not been cloned?0
