Tattoo artist not honouring deposit.

In which case just send them a letter before action requesting the £300 overpayment back.

"Dear XXXX, on X date I paid a deposit of £300 towards 5 tattoo sessions. On the 5th session on X date, the £300 deposit should have been deducted from the remaining balance, but was not, so an overpayment of £300 was made.
Please refund this £300 overpayment within 14 days of receipt of this letter. If payment is not received, legal action will be taken."

Obviously you won't be using this tattoo artist again!

I'm not sure it's that simple and the OP will need to word it differently.(?)

I doubt there was an agreement for 5 sessions - I suspect the agreement was open-ended as regards sessions which is why the tatooist rolled the deposit over after the 5th/last (?) session instead of deducting it from the price of the session.  If the OP never told the tatooist he couldn't continue, how would he know?

I agree the OP is owed £300 but I think it might be helpful if the OP gave the full story...

I'm not sure the contrcat has been performed or whether it might still be ongoing - certainly from the point of view of the tatooist...
