how to get information for travel insurance claim

Hi spent three weeks in hospital when on holiday abroad. I had excellent care and got home OK. My problem is settling a claim with the insurance company. Under the terms of the policy I paid for I should receive compensation for the nights of the holiday I missed  due to hospital admission so that will be three nights.
It was a package holiday I booked and the insurance company will base any compensation they pay for based on the accommodation cost of the holiday and not on the total cost of the holiday. I contacted the company who I booked the holiday with and it seems that they cannot give me the cost of the accommodation portion of the holiday, only the total cost of the holiday so I am not getting anywhere.
Has any one else experienced this problem?

The insurer will have some arbitrary split that they apply when the information isnt available.

You could try a dummy booking with the hotel and provide that to the insurer.  Tell them the travel company can't/won't provide you with their pricing.
