A high street bank has blocked my accounts

Hi I thought to update on this.
The bank sent a letter informing me that my account has been closed and telling me to go to branch.
There I collected my thousands of money, they said they couldn't put it in any other account and I had to collect in cash.
After that I received a call telling me that they will send a letter. I asked for the reasons, they said that it was the activity that triggered the investigation.
I was told that was all the information they could provide.
I expressed my disappointment, they accepted failures, but that was it.
not sure if I will try SAR, but they said they cannot inform what procedure, what information, or any investigation carried out.7 -
Thanks for coming back and updating us on the outcome!2

They legally can’t tell you why your accounts are closed down!
but if due to suspected fraud then you will get CIFIAS marker!
if you can prove what you did was legit then all good!
but if not no banks will tough you for 6 years

oh really? I did not know anything about CIFAS. how do I know if they are going to do that or if that is already there.GTR_King said:They legally can’t tell you why your accounts are closed down!

I asked them why they haven't asked for any explanation or evidence so I could provide where the sources come from or so, I was told that they did not have control on that and it was decided to close the account.
I suppose I shouldn't worry as I can show where funds come from, but I would like to know if there are any consequences from that review. it appears to me so unfair.

You can send CIFAS a SAR & it will show any listings.Life in the slow lane1

How do you prove what you did was legit if you won't ever be told why your account was closed?GTR_King said:They legally can’t tell you why your accounts are closed down!

6 years to go without banking is nuts!1 -
If you know that you and your partner’s funds are legit, then it may well be that this started with your ex. When an account is flagged, the accounts that they have transferred money to will be flagged also. It may be that a bank is concerned that you are party to whatever your ex is involved in. If you do find that a CIFAS has been logged against you, then I would try challenging it on the basis that you have nothing to do with your ex (that your child regards someone else as dad would seem to support this) therefore know nothing about his finances.

You are asked to prove source of funds, before account is closed. If you can't & account is shut down. Then in effect you have been found in breech of T/C & there is no way to prove what you did was legit.cronzo95 said:

Are you? In a lot of cases it seems the bank simply refuses to engage with the customer (there’s no way they can be guilty of ‘tipping off’ if they simply say there’s nothing we can tell you at the present time and will be in touch in due course) and finds one way or the other without their input. The customer can try pre-empting what might have spooked them and provide evidence accordingly, but they can’t guarantee that it actually ends up in front of person making the decision.born_again said:

But it sounds like they often don't ask for any information or input from the customer. They conduct their thing and tell the customer.born_again said:
