ID type of wood flooring?

Options
Bro has just had his flooring sanded. The first pic shows the freshly-sanded finish, along with the treated result under it. The second photo shows the whole floor after being 'oiled' - I don't actually know what coating was applied, but it was 'clear'.
Could anyone ID the type of timber, please?
Ta.

  • Looks like an oak?
  • Too many knots in it to be oak. Possibly pine.

Oak generally has more knots than pine.
  • Thanks for your thoughts.
It's definitely a hardwood, I'd say. It's like oak in places, but not quite.
The sanding cove reckoned it was Junckers Beech, which is plausible, but it seemed too nicely grained to me for Beech, and too much variety? Hence me wondering.
    What is 'Junckers' anyway?

Our floors definitely oak, and the stairs definitely pine with a dark oak stain.

  • Thanks. Yes, oak is usually pretty distinctive, and shares a lot of grain with bro's floor, but his floor doesn't have the really interesting bits of oak, like white wiggles. On the other hand, his floor looks more interesting than most beeches, which can be very plain.
So it's half way between oak and beech
  • I’d go with oak as well - this is the staves in my worktop

    Nice.
Your oak has the lovely tell-tale white squiggles, which my bro's does not, hence me thinking his ain't Oak. And his also has the busy, fuzzy pattern of Beech.
The only reason I wonder if it ain't Beech is that it has come up so nice and golden, and with such pleasing variation in the grain. Perhaps it's a nicer selection of Beech?

Ah, so not a 'type' of Beech.
The floor-sander cover reckoned it was this 'Junckers', and looking it up it's bludy expensive. So perhaps a nicer grade of Beech with a more interesting grain?
    Cheers.
