Here in writing:

Anyway thanks seems advice is take the write off although they are having one more crack at appraising the repairs and hopefully getting it below the threshold where they write it off, but does seem unlikely for reasons mentioned above0

You're driving a banger, get it written off and repair with second hand parts then run it into the ground. Being Cat N at that level will have little too no bearing anyway take photos before repair if that worries you.1
