Direct debit not taken

Has anyone else not had their barclaycard direct debit not collected?
Mine was due to be taken yesterday but not showing anywhere on my bank account or on my barclaycard login, but DD is showing as live for full balance.

Definitely enough money in there, but I'll end up in credit if I pay it separately, but don't want a late payment marker on my account either. Perhaps just pay the minimum?

  • What is your exact payment date as per the e-mail they send you (or me anyway) or in the App?

I would not worry until after Monday - if it still has not been taken contact them.

It's likely just a delay due to the weekend but....

Take screen shots that there's nothing taken.  And wait until Monday.  It will likely go then.  If they try to say they tried and it didn't work & charge you a fee raise a complaint saying that you have been "financially inconvenienced" but their system failure.  Add that you want any charge refunded immediately and to ensure that no marker is put on your credit history.

  • Checked my statement, it says pay by the 13th, but also that the DD will be collected on the 13th or soon after.

This happened to me last month.

It was an error by Barclaycard. They should have collected on 14 November, but didn't. On 20 November, they sent me a text. That message said "You don't need to do anything, we'll fix it by claiming the payment on 25 November." They did.

As far as I can tell, I'm not being disadvantaged at all. Although the payment wasn't taken until 25 November, my account still shows it as credited to the Barclaycard on 14 November. I haven't seen any sign of late payment or interest charges.

When I phoned to query things, I was assured that there wouldn't be a late payment recorded on my credit history, either.

You might (or might not) want to talk to Barclaycard to check things with them, but it does sound like a repetition of my experience.

(In the end, I actually benefited a bit - the money sat in my bank account for a week or two, and I got a little interest as a result.)

PS - the thread discussing the problem last month is here.
  • Thank you, so DD still not taken, explanation from Barclaycard has confused me more - but that doesn't take much.

I owed £33 DD was for full amount

I had bought something on vinted for around £38, this was subsequently refunded around 2 weeks later therefore Barclays consider this to have paid my balance.

I still owed the £33 and also £14.99 (which I'd forgotten about).
I've just paid £20 towards it and will see what happens next month - unless the above sounds completely wrong what they've told me?

No, that sounds plausible. If you make a payment, or receive a refund, in the period between your statement date and Barclaycard raising the DD claim, that payment or refund is offset against what you owe and the DD claim is reduced appropriately. Whilst this treatment isn't universal, some other credit card issuers do the same.

You didn't need to make the additional £20 payment, though it does no harm. If the refund was for more than your total debt, you won't get charged interest.
