Height of an extension close to the boundary

My house is semi detached and my neighbour is building an extension about 6 inches away from the boundary. The planning which has now been passed shows a single storey next to the boundary. Does anyone know the rules on how high this can be. I thought it was 3 metres but it is being built higher than that.

do the plans not show the height? i would have thought this would be included to get building permission.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. No they applied for permitted development originally and the height was showing as a maximum height of 3m, and measuring 2.7m at the eaves. Since then they have applied for planning for a much larger extension and that bit of the planning picture shows that part of the extension close to the boundary as (Prior notification for demolition of a 2.2 metre existing extension and erection of a ground floor rear extension measuring 4 metres from beyond the original rear wall under planning application reference No) There is no reference to the height on the the application that has been passed.Brie said:do the plans not show the height? i would have thought this would be included to get building permission.

If you apply for planning consent then it can be as high as the planning officers allow. The submitted plans should show the height somewhere - are you sure you've seen all of them?millie said:My house is semi detached and my neighbour is building an extension about 6 inches away from the boundary. Yes the only reference to height is on the permitted development which is still showing on his full plans. The part next to our boundary is showing as permitted development. I read on one of my internet searches that unless it was more than 2 metres from the boundary that was as high as it was allowed to be. I will go out and measure it in the morning, I could not do it earlier as the builders have only just left.0

From what you are describing I think the rules would be a max of 3m at the eaves, and 4m overall - but there ought to be clarity on exactly what is being approved in the planning application.millie said:Yes the only reference to height is on the permitted development which is still showing on his full plans. I can’t put the planning details on here as that would identify the property. I will phone the planning department on Monday. The only problem with that is there never seems anyone available to discuss it with. I think I still have the email for the planning officer who dealt with the application do you thinks she should be the person to contact.0

The height will be on the plans - they won’t approve without plans.2006 LBM £28,000+ in debt.

It must be the height that is on the permitted development part then, looking at it looks higher than that. I will measure it tomorrow, the builders don’t usually come on Sundays.jonnydeppiwish! said:The height will be on the plans - they won’t approve without plans.0
