Currys - Google pixel 7 pro

Recently my Pixel 7 pro developed a fault where by the camera glass/covering shattered while just being in my pocket. The phone was not dropped.

I have raised a resolver ticket with Currys. I got the following response from Currys. "Please reach out to the manufacturer for assistance if you believe this is a known issue.

In order for Currys to consider a claim under the Consumer Rights Act, we would need definitive proof of this being a manufacturing defect.

This would only be acceptable by way of an expert report from Google or a similarly qualified engineer." Reached out to Google who are not interested.

Went to a couple of local shops who would not entertain a report.

What options do I have?

The phone was purchased in Oct 22 direct from Currys with gift cards and a small amount on Credit card.

I have also come across a number of news articles and forum boards with similar issues.

  • After over two years of presumably constant use and carriage in bags, pockets, car cradles, etc, I think you'd find it difficult to find someone who'd  confidently state that there's an inherent manufacturing defect.

The only option you have is what Currys are saying, so unless you can find someone to inspect and report (and state that the problem is likely to be a manufacturing defect) then it's seeing if you can find someone to repair it.  Or trade it in for what you can get.  Your credit card company will ask for the same thing that Currys have asked for.

Have you got insurance for it, perhaps with home contents cover or bundled with your bank account?

    That looks like impact damage.

Get a report stating that it is an inherent fault if you genuinely think the camera didn't hit something.

Had the same thing happen to a Samsung didn't think it was worth claiming or repairing with the excess and you would only receive a refurbished phone anyway. So just purchased new

I really doubt this is a manufacturing fault.
  • Thank you for the responses.

The only reason why I question it being a manufacturing fault is coming across stuff like this.

Definitely did not hit anything it was just in my jacket pocket at work.

I would expect a flagship phone to last longer than just 2 years though to be fair.

But it has.  What you've got is some external damage that was almost certainly caused by impact.  I presume it's only affecting the main camera function?
