Landline goes to mobile, sound is being distorted by router?

My friend was with BT for broadband and landline and is in a protracted switch to Talk Talk. His landline is being directed to his mobile temporarily, and it's the new line over the broadband setup. The call quality on his mobile using WHatsApp is perfect, but when using the landline number the sound is severely distorted. There's a but, if he's close to the router the sound is bad, but if he moves to the front door several feet from the router, the sound quality comes back. It's a strange one, anyone got ideas what could be causing this, and a fix? Waiting on inept TT to get someone round is testing the patience.

How has he diverted it to mobile?
Does his phone have wifi calling? Is it on? What's his reception on mobile in the property generally?

Or was it a phone/base station that plugged into the BT Smarthub?I'm not sure just what TT have done here, ie. why they have diverted the Voip to a mobile phone rather than a dedicated handset?
Is it because he has sent the BT Smarthub back? They usually want the BT hub back*.
What router is he currently using? But as you say it's a temporary measure then things should work properly again once TT get things set up properly.
He may neeed a new Voip handset though, one that will connect to the TT router.*(For some odd reason they don't usually ask for the BT Voip Advanced phone handset to be sent back, and AFAIK that will only connect by wireless signal to a BT Smarthub anyway).

The landline was transferred to his mobile as a temporary measure as the transition from BT to TT cut off the landline or made it not work. His mobile is a recent iPhone so it will have WiFi calls. The landline to mobile is the issue, I'll ask him if he has the TT handset but currently the issue is his landline is routed to his iPhone. The signal from which is distorted highly when within a few metres of the router.I will link him to this thread, he might have a voip handset, but the landline number is going straight to his mobile currently. It just seems an odd situation where the router is affecting landline calls.Cheers for your input. TT are so slow in getting the issue solved that it's dragging on. Currently he was told it would be a week before an engineer would be sent.0

I'm not sure how it works with TT, but with BT the Voip signal to a wirless handset is a seperate signal to the wifi.Is the new/current TT router actually working with broadband? Is it broadcasting a usable wifi signal for internet?
(Is he actually using wifi on his mobile, or is it connecting to the internet and WhatsApp using 4G/5G?).It all sounds a bit of an odd situation, but it should resolve once TT have finished setting things up.0
