WARNING A&L CC charges after closing account!

Paid of my full balance on 8/6, phoned up & cancelled the card on 11/6. I was told to cancel the direct debit with my bank. The account was £0 & as far as I was concerned the account was closed.
Got my statement today, & was charged £25 unpaid direct debit fee! (they tried to take the money out on 15/6)
After a long arguement on the phone with them, them blaiming me for breaking the direct debit contract I made with them, I finally got them to refund the fee. If the direct debit had gone through, I would have been it credit, which many CC companies don't like.
I just hope that this is the end of it, I can still see there being problems!
Next year we'll be millionaires!

I believe the DD process is initiated 5 days before collection takes place.

Therefore, the Sat 11/6 phone call was a day or so late as the DD would already have been initiated on Fri 10/6 (or earlier due to impending weekend) so it could be taken on Wed 15/6.
