Undisclosed windscreen repair
Hi, we bought a car a month ago. I drove it the other day and noticed a chip in the windscreen right in my sight (section A). I thought it happened during the recent storm and started a claim on my insurance. Windscreen guy came out and said that this is an old fix that failed and can't be repaired and needs replacing as it will fail MOT due to size(15-20mm with hairline cracks included). This was not disclosed when selling the car. The car dealer doesn't care. Where do I stand with this. Is it my or car dealer issue, as replacing on insurance will be £150. Thank you.

You obviously didn't notice it at the time you bought the car so I would think it's with you to sort.1

The cost of a new screen is somewhere between £250 and £1000 - more if some special features - curved tinted heated screen etc. I doubt any used car dealer declares screen repairs, and how would they know? Loads of vehicles are sold with bodywork repairs, I doubt they get declared either. I think I'd just pay the £150.

Did you ask the specific question ?Coni888 said:Hi, we bought a car a month ago. I drove it the other day and noticed a chip in the windscreen right in my sight (section A). As above as well, they may not have been aware anyway1 -
The chip was "right in my sight", yet it took you a month to notice it. How do you imagine the dealer should have spotted it?Coni888 said:Hi, we bought a car a month ago. ***old fix that failed and can't be repaired and needs replacing as it will fail MOT due to size(15-20mm with hairline cracks included). ***You do not say how old the car is. If it is 3 years old and cam with a new MOT then you could make an official complaint0

How can you prove that a chip hasn't just happened? If it wasn't obvious for a month then it's quite difficult to argue otherwise.Grey_Critic said:You do not say how old the car is. Apart from anything else, you can only appeal an MOT within 28 days of the test.Grey_Critic said:***old fix that failed and can't be repaired and needs replacing as it will fail MOT due to size(15-20mm with hairline cracks included). ***You do not say how old the car is. The repair was almost certainly just fine at the time of the test - after all, the OP didn't notice it until the repair failed a month after taking ownership.1 -
Beware that if the damage was done before you got the car, then your insurance company might not want to pay for the replacement.0
