Wrong diagnosis. Who pays?

    £525 seems expensive even if the diagnosis was correct, its difficult to say whether it was or not. The symptoms you describe just aren't something I've ever seen, so I can see how the plate hex looked like the possible culprit.

    I'm not sure a full refund is in order, but I certainly wouldn't be happy with the £525 cost to date. The contractor will be able to cover their costs at a much cheaper figure. 

    A Worcester FPR is around £300, so that seems like a reasonable starting point.

    Location in the UK, parking etc do have a large bearing on prices, so its difficult to judge without all the information.
