Chargeable Event Certificate

My sister passed away in October 2022, we used the Tell Us Once service to notify the concerned Government Departments which included the HMRC. In March 2023 Aviva issued us with a chargeable events certificate, the solicitor handling the probate has just advised us (11 December 2024) that they are waiting on the HMRC to advise if a tax return is required and will not release the Estate funds pending this. What steps can I take they are holding on to 97K plus of funds for almost two years

  • The tell us once service will not cover taxation f the estate, but unfortunately this is another case of horribly slow service from the solicitor combined with them covering bottom  covering incase there is a late tax demand coming out of HMRC.

Were the solicitors named as executors in her will or did you appoint them to handle the estate?
