I finally got a smart meter last week (6 Dec).  I was impressed with installation, all very quick and painless so far!  I was given the pink octopus mini device which is all plugged in.

I've noticed I'm getting some usage on the app, so far I've got for 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10th but nothing yet for 11th.  It seems to come through 24-36 hours after the fact and I'm certainly not getting hourly readings.  Is this normal?

  • The "DAY" tab on the app will fill the gaps - the information from the mini fills that, while the week, month and year tabs are all filled using the pulls from the meter, which yes, does take a little longer as Octopus to my knowledge only pull once day.

I have the mini home hub. Once correctly installed, the octopus app will display a Live tab to the left of the Day Week Month and Year tabs.

Live view is almost but not quite instantaneous (sometimes have to pull-down refresh the screen) and the full screen displays either 5 minutes (reading every 10 second - expect a few gaps) or 30 minutes (reading every minute) of data.

If you can't see the Live tab the mini home hub is not setup correctly.

Often the galf hourly gas readings are visible in the Day tab within an hour, though sometimes display lags by a few hours.

  •  Also - in the “live” tab you have two options - last 5 minutes or last 30 minutes. The first of those updates something like every ten seconds and can be really handy for seeing a true instant power draw from appliances etc - having moved into a house relatively recently with a lot of spotlights installed in ceilings, I’ve found it useful for tracking down any remaining old-style non low energy bulbs that were still lurking about!

You can also switch between energy used and the cost of that too which can be interesting if you want to know for example how much that 0.75kWh used by your air fryer to cook your tea has actually cost you!

I'm currently thankful for the Home Mini. Our local mobile phone mast was knocked out by Storm Darragh, so no smart meter data going out. The IHD hasn't been working but I can at least get live usage (last half hour) on the phone app and on my PC, which is better than nothing.

Green means it's connected to your wifi but not to Octopus's server.
If you haven't already, try unplugging it, counting to ten and plugging it back in. Mine tripped out (stuck at green) when the power dipped during Darragh, but restarting it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the tip. Sadly still green. The meter was only fitted a week ago, should it connect immediately or do I need to wait a bit?

So it looks like I really messed up the set up! I’ve reset the device and started again. Hopefully I’ll see some data soon!
