Hi All, Are DWP allowed to pay my carer's allowance to my Landlord and leave with nothing at all?

Are you in rent arrears?

I can't find any basis for a third-party deduction to be taken from Carers Allowance. Even if there was a right, I don't think they would be allowed to take all your Carers Allowance. It would only be a small portion of it.
Is this something that has happened, or that you have been threatened with?
Either way, I would ask the DWP on what legal basis they are deduction, as them to confirm the regulation and the law that allows them to do this.
If you are in rent arrears by more than two months, you might have other benefits reduced to pay the arrears, but not Carers Allowance. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
I believe in extreme circumstances there can be deductions from non-means tested benefits like CA and PIP.
IIRC this usually only applies to fraud related overpayments though, not just rent arrears.Do you definitely mean Carers ALLOWANCE or do you mean UC Carers Element?0 -
NO this is highly unusual0
