care home fees

I realise that if one of a married couple goes into care the home is 'disregarded' for fees. I would like to know if the fees are then 'rolled up' until the house is sold. in other words it is not disregarded but deferred

Comments

  • No it is totally disregarded while one spouse continues to live there.

We have decided that in the (hopefully unlikely) event of one of us needing residential care, then the other will take out maximum equity release in order to help pay for a decent, local, care home.

The alternative - anywhere with a spare bed, regardless of quality or distance - just doesn't bear thinking about.
