Bespoke skirting recommendations

Hi,

I want to replicate my Edwardian skirting and wondered if anyone had any recommended places?

We are based in London.  I have looked locally and the costs are insane, the only reasonable place who were transparent with the cost of the cutter is too far away. They charged £75 for the cutter and then it was normal prices for the lengths produced.

Others I have found seem to be charging triple that or more.

Thanks

I'm not sure if you've looked at this company. I use them regularly.
  • I also found prices varied massively, and that the best prices were from places that charged a separate setup cost for the tooling and then a manageable rate per metre. This worked out better even though we only wanted a few metres, as others were asking silly money.

We used a place on the opposite side of the country, and never went there. Is the issue that you'd need to get a sample of the existing skirting to them to replicate? In our case the skirting was an unusual angular profile that I was able to draw out and email for them to work from. But it could be worth sending a sample by courier if that's what's needed?

Went through a similar exercise myself earlier in the year. Wanted to replicate some late 1920s mouldings. Have a couple of local companies that have spindle moulders. Setup charge of £70 if they had the right cutters on the shelf. Should new cutters be needed, that could cost another £120-180. Actual cost per metre wasn't much more than the raw material.
In the end, I purchased a variety of router bits and set up a router table to do ~16m. Skirting only needed a single cutter, architrave, two, and picture rail, four. If/when I need more mouldings, I now have the cutters to make more.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Thank you, yes they do vary in price, eye watering in some cases.  We would send a sample as we have some that had to be removed.

We hoped a local supplier would have it, all the skirting locally is the same from what I can tell. Maybe people just replace the whole lot or have inconsistencies. But we are restoring not renovating.  I wish we had your skills to do that.'
