Seller doesn’t know what price they want for house so not answered about my offer

Hello, recently put an offer in on a property and was told seller wanted to wait for more viewings before considering mine. There was no time scale on this so felt a bit lost, I then asked what price would the seller want for it to come off the market and close a deal and EA have responded to say they asked seller and “have no idea what price they want but will try and think about it”
what would you do in this situation? I really like this place but just very confused at the fact the seller doesn’t seem to know what they want either and don’t want to be dragged along as a “backup offer on the shelf” kind of thing

Because they want the asking price
If you think it’s worth it to you offer it and seal the deal0 -
You could tell them your offer only stands for X days - but would you be content if that prompted them to say no? I would suggest you tell them you will carry on looking and if you find somewhere else good that accepts an offer from you then it is too late for this seller.

Have you been a bit too eager? You made an offer above asking, they said they wanted to explore a few more viewings. Probably have to accept that but you asked them to name their price. So you are very keen.
It is perhaps understandable that they would like to explore the outcome of a few more scheduled viewings, if it has only just been listed.
There is fair chance your offer will be the only or best one and in a weeks time they will come to you.0 -
Are they serious about selling? Have they found another property yet or are they just testing the market and MIGHT move if they get a good enough offer and find a place they actually want to move to!If you were one of the first to see the house and put in a higher than asking price offer they might be thinking it was undervalued and are waiting to see how much more others will offer (if anything above your offer!).Book some more viewings through the same agents - that may get fed back to the vendors and put some pressure on them to make a decision before they lose you.1

That changes everything, the vendor thinks the EA have listed it too low and now is being greedyMint5533 said:
Sorry I should have added, my first offer was above asking priceMikeJXE said:Because they want the asking price

You will probably have to wait now for more offers to come in while they “think about it”
If they do accept your offer be prepared for them to back out if something better comes along1 -
It is the vendors choice whether or not to accept an offer, even an above asking price offer.
All you can do it wait and see if they accept or not. Continue looking at alternative options in the meantime. Or if you really like this property increase your offer, but if you go down this route make sure you have the funds to carry through with the offer if accepted and a lower than expected mortgage valuation comes back.0 -
I'd leave the offer on the table, but mentally move on and keep looking, both at properties with other agents and with the ones marketing this place - that means the EA will see you're a serious buyer and hopefully encourage the vendor to pull their finger out. In the event they do, you should be the first person the EA contacts.
If they do, you can decide if you still want the place - you may well have found somewhere you like more in the meantime.0 -

Do not assume that the seller thinks like you. Many people are not very rational/business-like and they may be very indecisive, or many other reasons why they might seem to behave in an unpredictable way.0
