Seller sending a collect only item

Hello all - bidded and won on EBay but honestly never noticed it was collection only - contacted seller straight away to explain and after a bit of forward and backward messaging they agreed to post ( item £450 plus )  - I realise the bid would probably have gone higher if it was not collect only but the seller has not brought this up - been paid thru PayPal and now wants my address to send to - am I missing something here ? ( would have thought my address would be on his PayPal communication even though it’s still coming up on EBay with arrange collection and the QR symbol to show on pick up ) - he hasn’t even asked for extra postal costs ,even though this would be about £10
 Thanks

He's not assuming that you want it sent to your PayPal address is all. I always ask for address as some people use other people's PayPal and don't have their own account and some people want it sent to their work address
  • Surely you wouldn’t send to a different address than the one stipulated in PayPal ?? - thought that was rule number one !

Never ever send to any address other than that given by eBay , it used to be the PayPal address but a seller doesn’t see that any more just the address eBay give. If you start sending things to random address you would lose an INR as for seller protection you must post to the address supplied by eBay. If someone wants a different address then they need to change it on their payment method before they pay, this is easy on eBay as before you confirm your payment method you see the address and you can just click and change it. Seller then just sees that amended address.

Anyone asking for an item to be posted to a different address should be treated with caution.

I’d be slightly concerned here and would be looking at what could go wrong. A collection item is deemed to be accepted at point of collection, so potentially you could end up with an issue if item arrives damaged or incomplete. However the seller is also running a risk, but if they add the tracking details to the sale, assuming they can, they should be OK.

It seems odd that they are posting at no extra cost, and that raises a bit of a worry to me. Are they new to eBay?

Hi Soolin - no been on there as long as I have ,over 20 years , although only 28 positive feedback as a seller , with those being over a year ago - as said I have already paid thru PayPal  -I take it those funds are unavailable to them until such time that I receive item ??
I can see why they do need my address as PayPal or EBay won’t provide it as it’s deemed to be a collection item so not necessary
have asked them if I can get RM to pick it up from their address so that I would get tracking on it

Currently seller can withdraw the funds approx 24 hours or less after payment, even if item hasn’t been sent.

If you paid through eBay then eBay should have supplied your address .

  • Would they supply my address if Ebay still assume it’s being collected though ?
could you foresee anyway that this could go sideways for me ? Either by not receiving or unable to return for a faulty item ?

    No,
If the item was listed as collection only the seller will not get your address from either ebay or PayPal and won't have any way of finding it out.
However,  if you have paid for the item via ebay you should be able to send them the address through ebay messages with no problems.

It's the seller taking the majority of the risk in this transaction.

Except, if the item gets damaged in the post you'll have to hope the seller is willing to work with you to make a claim from the carrier as the carrier is unlikely to respond to you.
