Once you paid the debt, the company should have recalled the debt from the bailiff, and you should not have had to pay them anything, they may ague you owed the compliance fee, but that should have been it.

What do they say the £680 is for? as it appears they are trying to charge you for enforcement as well.

So it was a firm of solicitors that you originally owed the debt to - correct?

OP's post slightly broken down for ease of reading...
On the 05/11/24 It got ordered by a court that I had to pay £892 to the company I owed money to and I had to pay the company directly that I had 1 month to pay I phoned the company and paid the full amount (£892 on the 18/11/24)

On the 20/11/24 I received a letter from the high court enforcement group telling me I have to pay them £1,097.75.
Also on the 20/11/24 I phoned the court that it went through on the 5th and asked them what I should do as I had already paid the company I owed money to, they told me that I shouldn’t have to pay the bailiff as the company shouldn’t have accepted payment as they would have already known they ordered bailiffs. I emailed the bailiffs telling them I had already paid the debt before I received the letter off them and I didn’t believe I had to pay them, they responded telling me I did have to pay them £205.75.

I contacted citizens advice they told me to contact the high court enforcement group and tell them that I had already paid and that I believe I didn’t owe them anything as I paid before I was contacted, so I tried again and they were adamant I had to pay them I told them I would like a detailed bill and I would contact citizens advice.

On the 20/01/25 I received an email telling me that it would go up if I didn’t pay that they would send a bailiff which would cost more money so I tried to pay on the same day to save the hassle I emailed them telling them that I’ve tried to pay online and their online system wouldn’t let me I had no reply.. ( I have proof that I tried) I paid £205.75 on the 24/01/25.

On the 27/01/25 a bailiff turned up saying I owe £885.75 because he’s had to come out to me I explained that I had already paid the £205.75 he then said to me that the office couldn’t of seen I paid and that I didn’t have to pay anymore that was it, he left.

On the 28/01/25 I received an email confirming they had received the £205.75 but I still owe them £680.00.

  • Yes, it was solicitors I don’t want to name the specific company, I don’t know why they want the £680.00 I emailed them to ask why I was getting charged that when I had already paid the amount they were asking for in full and I cannot afford to pay anymore money but they haven’t replied as of yet but I don’t have a clue where I stand.
  • I’ve contacted citizens advice again today, they said someone will phone me by the 31st to make an appointment but what if they come to my house again and put it up again before then? I live on my own with 3 young children and I can’t take anymore stress, I’ve had locked myself in just incase someone comes.

This may help, you can complain about high court enforcement companies here:

Bailiff powers when they visit your home: How to complain about a bailiff - GOV.UK

Certainly don`t pay them any more until they provide you with an itemised invoice, if they turn up at your home again, don`t let them in, keep doors locked, as they can make peaceful entry, they will say and do most anything in order to get paid, these companies have the morals of an ally cat.

Keep your proof of payment handy - they should have the records but it won't harm.
