My son has parked here, and on leaving and paying by Ringo he paid for the following 4 hours instead of resetting the time back to when he entered the car park. He tried everything to pay again using the correct time but could not get the app to do it, and did not have cash to pay.
He foolishly thought he could just show SMART his payment and explain and they would reallocate it to that time. It is a SMART car park and I know that is never going to happen, he will simply be charged for parking without having paid for the time used.

We are expecting a PCN through the post, and I suspect he will have to pay this, correct?

The signs said £100 charge but does anyone know if this is reduced for paying within a certain (14day?) timescale.

Thank you for any advice

Incorrect, no keeper liability in Scotland yet

The pcn is Always discounted by 40% , but it's irrelevant because nobody will be paying

    But

    Ignore

Nothing will happen to the RK, Especially because Smart Parking has no idea who was driving

Incorrect.  Nobody here pays Smart Parking in England, let alone in Scotland where you don't have keeper liability law yet!

I thought all drivers in Scotland knew you can ignore private parking charges?  Even your CAB Scotland tells you it's an option (it's more than an option but they can't say that!).

However you will get keeper liability in a year or so but you still would not be paying Smart Parking because they don't use that law.  They would also be unlikely to litigate because they can't add costs.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

AVOID AVOID AVOID Kinnoul St car park. Massive problems over the years since Smart took over. MPs aware so get your son to email a complaint to his/yours (hope it's Pete Wishart MP). Canal St multistorey provides a much better parking management system.

Pete Wishart MP was complaining about Smart Parking and that site around 7 or 8 years ago, in the House of Commons, I remember watching the debate, so look up the details

Oh thank you all so much, yes we were told we could ignore, but I am a real worrier and was so concerned about him getting debt management and CCJ and wrecking his credit score.
It was just a friend who said ignore and I wanted some more concrete advice and knew you were all experts.
He is only 18 and a worrier too but thank you we will ignore.

Will they send increasing nasty demands and send to debt management to recover?

He has just started an apprenticeship where he has to declare any financial issues.

Thank you both too, yes I've spoken to him and he'll never use it again, he thought it worked like Canal Street which he has used many times with no issues.
I'll get him to email MP too

You cannot get a CCJ in Scotland, so why are you worrying about the England and Wales justice system. ?

Please do some proper research and no knee jerk reactions

He doesn't have a credit score, Martin Lewis clearly said that on last weeks show on ITV

Smart parking don't issue court claims down here, so definitely won't for one PCN North of Hadrian's wall. 😬🤔🍺

Debt collectors letters will arrive, ignore them

Its only if a Scottish solicitor or the Sheriff write that you currently take notice and come back here. ( But neither will happen for a single PCN under the £300 threshold. )

More chance of me winning Euro millions

This isn't a financial issue.  He does NOT have to declare crappy letters from Smart Parking!  But yes he'll get some pretty red letters. Ignore.
