Morning all. It's dull and damp with strong winds and rain forecast for today and tomorrow but quiet so far. I think we'll miss the worst of it.
A belated Happy Birthday @Chrisca50, it probably is the best idea to stay out of the kitchen today!
Happy new PJs @Gers, shame about the shoes though.
@TA - I know what you mean about the price of cough medicine. I haven't bought any for ages, I'm not convinced they work anyway.
I phoned the council yesterday about the rainwater coming in and, to my surprise, I didn't have to wait long for my call to be answered. As I suspected, the first step is for a site engineer to come out to do an inspection which will be some time in the next 5 working days. If it's anything like last time, he'll be scratching his head and not come up with any solutions but I shall try to remain optimistic even though it's more likely to be a case of deja vu!
Yesterday I did a wash load of towels and today it's the turn of the bedding. Had a walk up to the Co-op for a few odds and ends so I don't need to go out anywhere over the weekend. Topped up my phone and received a free £3-worth of calls. Annual interest on an ISA paid, decent amount this year. Baked a loaf of bread.
Today I'm making soup (celery & bacon) to use up some YS celery along with bacon bits from a pack of cooking bacon. Other than that, no particular plans. Tea tonight is a picky meal of pizza (not my usual fare but I do enjoy it now and again), the last of some pepper & pea pasta and side salad.
Take care if you're planning to be out and about over the weekend. Sending healing thoughts for the poorly and those with poorly people. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Hello all, we're still here and not been blown away with Dorothy and Toto, yet ! We had red alert siren on all phones last night, that was scary in itself as I've never known that before, only the first test when we knew it was coming. We're a bit sheltered by the mountain but we're still getting very strong gusts and anything can happen when it changes direction. Oh! and its lashing down.
We were going to DD's today to celebrate her birthday so we'll wait and see if it's safe, if not we'll go tomorrow.
I still have some decorations to put up but the bulk has been done and I've plenty to keep me occupied.
Mehefin please stay safe.
TA I agree it could be acid reflux or one of your meds causing the cough. My BP meds sometimes cause me to cough at night.
Gers shame about the shoes.
Camelot fingers crossed everything will fit through the doors.
Stay safe everyone, take care of yourselves.

O little town of Bethlehem,
how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
the everlasting light;
the hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight† + ☆ * ☆ ☆ * ☆ + †
Morning! Unfortunately no carols about being blown to pieces only sea shanties. The gazebo is most definitely on it's last legs, shame I've only laid half the slabs for the shed to go on top of [ sorry Izzy, I didnt ait for him, je was in work when the window for laying arrived] The cat are put out, they keep going from the front of the house to the back expecting the weather to be better one side if it isn't the other
Finally got the fire going properly again, fiddled with the register plate which is a bit wonky. Might go to B&Q later on, I do need some wood to put stops on the bathroom door, drunk people don't listen to don't pull it past it's hinges...Even one bit at the top would fix that. So other than that, today I do nothing!
Chris, happy belated birthday from me too! There's plenty of us in December
Gers, OHs mum showed me a trick for the poo test I hadn't thought of, much easier than trying to poo in a bottle
camelot, I'm sure they should do door tests with sofas to make sure they do fit.. It's not like staely homes with big doors are the norm is it? Allie, stay home, don't bother
snoozer, never underestimate the feeling of conquering the dark fire makes you have
shame about the breakfast, I think one of those is probably my second favourite meal
mehefin, stay in, wear ear plugs...Take care all, don't bother going out, it's not worth it if you're in the windy windy zone....

Morning all and thanks for the start @Gers - glad to hear the meeting went okay. Annoying about the shoes. I too don't understand people not taking up preventative screening procedures - just bonkers.
Glad to have heard from our friends in Wales on here. I hope you all stay safe and well and don't incur any damage to property.
Belated HB to @Chrisca50 for yesterday x
We went back to our old town last night for a curry/drinks with friends. A very funny evening which saw us getting home at 00:30. I drove back and it was very gusty on the motorway, and still windy this morning but manageable. We are out for lunch as it would have been DNephew's 30th birthday today, so we will be remembering him with love and fondness
SIL is still 'under' and one almost feels bad going about one's daily lives/socialising, but not a lot we can do right now. She's in the best place and we will be here for when she's back with us.
That hotel sounds terrible @snoozer! Enjoy your short break away.
Hope our poorlies feel better soon and that everyone has as good a day as they can.

Good morning. Very windy and heavy rain here (surprise surprise).
Yesterday turned into one of those days. I had a parcel to return and when processing it I found out I could take it to my local A*da. Great I thought, I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and do my shopping too. No, it didn't work out that way. It took over 20minutes to process the parcel as the poor colleague didn't know what she was doing. She did her best but the store was busy and there was no one she could ask for advice. Between us we managed to sort it out. Then the shopping, the shelves were almost empty. By then I just gave up and got what essentials I could. Will try again next week.
Mehefin, stay safe.
Chrisca, a belated happy birthday from another December baby. Hope you feel better.
Taff, thank you for the carols.
Sorry if I've forgotten anyone. Stay safe and warm all.8 -
Well, I made it the 30 miles north and back again in one piece. Both parcels posted off. The PO is inside a huge Tesco, I wanted to get there early to avoid queues. As for the shoes, yes, it's shame but I'm happy that they're going back. I didn't really need them and they were expensive. The tups are in with the ewes (sheep don't lamb here until May'ish) and the alpacas were out in their field too.The river has burst it's banks so the fields are flooded. I hadn't 't realised that the rain was torrential overnight. My first clue was that my hearth has water in it, contained by the fender. It rarely happens, only when the rain is so severe that the ground can't contain it - my cottage is a very ancient stone one which has no foundations, it was built straight on the ground. Before I went out I lit a small fire in the wood burner which has now dried the water up. Unfortunately my red fireproof gauntlet is soaked through so I've ordered a new pair. The original pair are really ancient anyway and had almost reached the end of their useful lives.@snoozer - what a dreadful breakfast, such a shame as these small things spoil hotel stays. I'm surprised that you supply wood for your holiday place, here it's usual for one burn worth is given with instructions about where to buy more.Long distance hugs to those with colds or 'flu. @Mehefin - all the horses I see here (and there are a fair few) are all now wearing blankets, I hope that your brood are OK. Thanks for the carol @Taff - and for goodness sake slow down a bit. It takes a bit of getting used to I know! @Camelot - delivery men are usually really good at squeezing furniture through doors, especially the JL crews. My fingers are crossed for you.
